Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

The Biomanufacturing Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a ~25,000SF state-of-the-art current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) biomanufacturing facility comprised of (i) 10,000SF of dedicated cell culture and process development (PD) laboratories, (ii) 12,000SF of cGMP cleanroom cell production and quality control (QC) laboratories, and (iii) 4,000SF of dedicated adjacent cell culture labs for incorporating hands-on stem cell training practical modules and education of the next generation of scientists specializing in biomanufacturing. Serving Cedars-Sinai Medical Center faculty, as well as external academic, clinical and commercial investigators, the CBC is focused on producing the next generation of cell and gene therapies, with special emphasis on fast-tracking the process development and manufacturing of preclinical iPSC-based cell therapies to support human Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling clinical trials. With world-class expertise in stem cell biology, bioprocessing, tissue engineering, 3D bioprinting, translational, regulatory, and manufacturing, the CBC fills an important gap with an integrated cGMP biomanufacturing center within a medical center. The CBC’s cell production laboratory houses seven ISO 7 cell production suites, each with ISO 5 biosafety cabinets (BSCs), incubators, centrifuges, and microscopes. An adjacent analytical testing laboratory provides analytical method development, in-process testing and QC product release testing. To support scalable expansion of cells in defined cGMP-compatible media, the latest clinical-grade closed cell processing systems, scalable bioreactor systems and automated solutions are available.
